List of Candida Symptems
Candidiasis or yeast infections can be systemic, involving the whole body, or localized, involving only the mouth, skin or vagina. The list of Candida symptems depends on the type and location of the infection.
For example, there are few symptoms of oral candidiasis such as irritation of the mouth and a whitish discharge on the mouth and tongue. On the other side of the spectrum are the symptoms of a vaginal yeast infection, which include intense vaginal itching, a thick whitish discharge and burning pain in the vagina.
The list of Candida symptoms is equally short in skin infections. There may be a slightly itchy rash and the skin may be moist and sticky but that’s about it. Doctors can recommend nystatin cream or powder for the skin infection and it will be gone in just a week or two.
On the contrary, the list of Candida symptems is long with those suffering from systemic Candidiasis. Usually the infection enters the system through the gastrointestinal tract which is usually inhabited by healthy bacteria. The large bowel becomes overrun with Candida and the bowel becomes “leaky” allowing Candida to invade the bloodstream along with undigested particles of food and waste matter.
Systemic candidiasis is most common in HIV patients, in pregnant patients and in those with diabetes. It sometimes takes a blood culture for fungus or a tissue biopsy to prove the diagnosis.
When Candidiasis affects the entire body, the list of Candida symptoms is long. Symptoms can include joint pain and swelling, kidney failure or other kidney involvement, infection on the valves of the heart, brain involvement, including seizures and headache, blurry vision, infection in the genital tract, eye infection and symptoms of food allergies.
Some sufferers can have a high fever or can go into shock. Anemia is common and there can be a bodily rash. The lungs can be affected and can cause bloody sputum. Such a condition can truly be life threatening to those who come down with it.
The treatment of oral Candidiasis is difficult because these tend to be sick people in the first place with other illnesses besides systemic Candidiasis. The usual topical treatments tend to be woefully ineffective and IV antifungal medication is required. If at all possible, antibiotics should be discontinued as that can make the condition worse.
The list of Candida symptems depends on the person and on what body parts are affected. If the brain is affected, the individual can develop seizures. If the valves of the heart are affected, there can be heart failure or stroke from pieces of Candida falling off the valve and going to the brain. If the kidneys are affected, there can be blood in the urine. There can be diarrhea when the intestinal tract is affected.Any body system can be affected by Candida albicans and it is actually a very lethal infection to have, primarily because the individual is very sick to begin with. The person almost always is hospitalized and on a number of supportive measures during the treatment of their condition.
